Making life better for our feline friends

We are a small local association of volunteers committed to improving the lives of cats that live on the streets of Tavira. We strive to be the guardian angels, ensuring they have full bellies, good health, and a chance at a brighter future.

From providing meals to arranging essential veterinary care; facilitating colony neutering and single cat sterilisations. It is our mission to make Tavira a safe and caring community for every street cat.

What we do

At Street Cats of Tavira our main aim is to rescue those cats who are in dangerous or unhealthy situations and make life better for those who are safe and content on the streets.

We are part of a network of volunteers who look after colonies in the Tavira area.

The Street Cats

Many of the cats that live on the streets have a good life roaming freely in the sunshine. We make sure they are fed daily; are neutered and are fully inoculated against disease. Others are abandoned domestic cats who crave human love and attention. In these cases, and with new litters of kittens, we serve to find them new homes through responsible adoptions.

Regardless of their destination, we treat all cats as individuals and give all of them a name.

Cat Colonies

Cats can be found in many locations in Tavira; on the street, in doorways, outside shops and in colonies. The most prominent colony in Tavira is located near the Mercardo and is home to up to 60 cats..

All cat colonies in Tavira are fed and cared for by dedicated volunteers.
